Inspiration

Cyber scams are becoming a serious problem. People receive suspicious messages, fake offers, fraudulent links, and calls that may try to steal personal information. Losing important documents can also cause serious difficulties.

We wanted to create CyberShield, a simple cybersecurity assistant that helps people recognize potential scams and take better care of their important digital documents.

What It Does

CyberShield is designed to provide three main features:

  • Suspicious Message Checker: Users can paste a suspicious SMS, email, or message and receive a risk assessment based on common scam indicators.
  • Call Safety Checker: Users can review suspicious phone numbers and learn about warning signs of fraudulent calls.
  • Document Protection: Users can organize important documents and explore secure storage and backup options to reduce the risk of accidental loss.

How We Plan to Build It

We are developing a beginner-friendly web prototype using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The first version will focus on working message analysis, understandable warnings, and a simple security dashboard. Additional features will be implemented and tested as development progresses.

Challenges

The main challenges are identifying suspicious messages without incorrectly flagging genuine ones, protecting users' privacy, and understanding the limitations of browser-based security tools. We aim to address these challenges by explaining why a message may be suspicious and avoiding claims that any detection system is perfect.

What We Aim to Learn

Through CyberShield, we aim to gain practical experience in web development, cybersecurity awareness, basic threat detection, privacy-conscious design, and building a useful project for everyday users.
