Project Story
Inspiration Digital scams and fraud target everyone, but we realized that children (ages 8-13) are highly vulnerable to "Too Good to Be True" promises and panic-inducing messages. There is a critical lack of early education regarding digital financial safety. We were inspired to build a tool that protects the financial future of young, inexperienced internet users before they face real-world consequences.
What it does CyberPaws is an interactive, scenario-based game that teaches financial and cyber safety. Guided by our smart mascot, "Detective Pati," players face real-world scam scenarios across 6 distinct levels (such as The Phishing Clown, The Scareware Robot, and The Impersonator Trap). It teaches kids how to identify red flags and protect their personal and financial data in a fun, risk-free environment.
How we built it We built the entire interactive experience using Figma. We focused heavily on creating an engaging UI/UX tailored specifically for children. By utilizing Figma's advanced prototyping features, we were able to create a gamified, scenario-based learning framework with clickable choices and immediate feedback.
Challenges we ran into Translating complex financial literacy and cybersecurity concepts (like phishing, scareware, and shoulder surfing) into simple, engaging, and age-appropriate scenarios was our biggest challenge. Additionally, pushing Figma's prototyping limits to simulate a fully functional, logic-based game experience required a lot of creative design structuring.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We successfully developed a comprehensive 6-level educational curriculum disguised as an entertaining game. We are incredibly proud of our mascot integration, Detective Pati, who provides real-time educational feedback, turning players' "mistakes" into valuable learning moments rather than real-world financial losses.
What we learned We deepened our understanding of the psychology behind financial fraud and how scammers manipulate their targets. We also learned how to effectively gamify educational content for younger demographics and significantly improved our UI/UX design and prototyping skills.
What's next for CyberPaws We plan to scale the project by adding more levels covering advanced topics like cryptocurrency scams and complex social engineering. Ultimately, we aim to integrate CyberPaws as a standardized educational tool in primary and middle schools to supplement their financial literacy and digital citizenship curricula.
