Inspiration
With the rapid rise of social media usage among teenagers, cybercrimes such as harassment, scams, and phishing have become increasingly common. Many young users are unable to recognize whether a message or comment is harmful or illegal. This lack of awareness often leads to serious consequences.
I wanted to build a solution that empowers users to identify and understand cyber threats instantly.
What it does
The Cybercrime Detection App allows users to input text or upload screenshots of suspicious messages. The app analyzes the content using AI and:
- Detects potential cybercrime patterns (scams, threats, harassment, etc.)
- Identifies relevant legal sections related to the offense
- Provides information about possible punishments and consequences
How we built it
I built this application using AI-powered natural language processing through Google AI Studio and the Gemini API.
The system is designed to analyze user input, detect patterns associated with cybercrime, and generate clear, structured outputs that are easy to understand.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was ensuring that the AI responses were accurate and relevant to real-world cybercrime scenarios.
Another challenge was designing prompts that could reliably map user input to appropriate legal sections and explanations.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully built a working prototype that can analyze and classify cyber threats
- Integrated AI to provide meaningful and understandable legal insights
- Created a simple and accessible interface for non-technical users
What we learned
- How to use AI tools like Google AI Studio and Gemini API effectively
- The importance of prompt engineering in building reliable AI applications
- Gained deeper understanding of cybercrime patterns and user safety
What's next for Cybercrime Detection App
I plan to take this project further by:
- Developing a mobile app version
- Integrating with social media platforms for real-time detection
- Adding automatic scanning of messages with user permission
- Improving accuracy with more advanced AI models
Our goal is to create a real-time AI safety layer that protects users from cyber threats as they happen.
