About the Project

Inspiration

The inspiration for this project came from recognizing the growing threat of cyber scams targeting senior citizens. Many elderly individuals are unfamiliar with modern scams, making them easy targets for phishing, account hacks, and fraudulent messages. We wanted to create a solution that could educate them in an engaging and accessible way, equipping them with the knowledge to protect themselves online.

What We Learned

Throughout this project, we learned a lot about the psychology of scams and how they exploit the trust and unfamiliarity of senior citizens. We also learned about user-centered design, making sure the app was intuitive and easy for non-tech-savvy users to navigate. Additionally, we deepened our understanding of interactive learning tools and how to present complex information in a simplified, engaging format.

How We Built the Project

We built the project using Flutter, which allowed us to create a smooth and user-friendly mobile app. The project consists of two key components: video lessons and interactive quizzes. We started by scripting and producing short videos that depict real-world cyber scams. Following the videos, we integrated quizzes to test the user’s understanding. Flutter's widget library made it easy to create a visually appealing and responsive interface, and we used Google Cloud for video hosting and quiz result tracking.

Challenges Faced

One of the major challenges was ensuring that the app remained simple enough for senior citizens to use comfortably while still effectively delivering critical information. Balancing usability with comprehensive security lessons required careful planning and iteration. Another challenge was making the quizzes both educational and engaging without overwhelming the users. Lastly, managing video performance and ensuring fast load times for all devices was a technical hurdle we needed to address.
