Inspiration
With cyber threats growing rapidly across enterprises, we were inspired to create a hands-on simulation tool that models how real-world organizations detect, report, and respond to security incidents using open-source web technologies.
What it does
Our platform enables users to simulate cyberattacks, report incidents, monitor threats, apply layered defenses, and evaluate organizational risk levels in real-time. It mirrors the lifecycle of an incident response plan in a secure, educational environment.
How we built it
We faced issues with designing a realistic simulation of cyberattacks without compromising the platform’s integrity. Ensuring accurate data logging and simulating layered defense models within a limited backend stack also proved challenging.
Challenges we ran into
We faced issues with designing a realistic simulation of cyberattacks without compromising the platform’s integrity. Ensuring accurate data logging and simulating layered defense models within a limited backend stack also proved challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a working model that brings theoretical cybersecurity principles to life. The project is fully deployable and teaches risk evaluation, incident logging, and response strategy in an intuitive interface.
What we learned
We deepened our understanding of incident response workflows, risk management frameworks, and real-time logging. We also improved our full-stack web development skills using PHP and MySQL for secure applications.
What's next for cyber incident response
We plan to integrate automated threat detection, email/SMS alerts using APIs, a role-based access control system, and dashboards with analytics to support enterprise-level simulation and training.
