CWRU Connect

Challenge: Finding Times to Meetup

Students often have very busy schedules making it difficult to find sections of overlapping availability. Oftentimes, directly reaching out to people can feel awkward!! Especially when you don’t know when people are busy or free. Our goal is to make scheduling friendgroup hangouts almost automatic.

Streamlining Social Interactions

With direct Google Calendar integration, it's easy to import your events with just a few simple clicks. CWRU Connect will automatically suggest hangouts with selected friends based on availability. Finding times that work for everyone has never been easier!

Inspiration

Members of our team met and worked together at UTech and grew close while training, but as we transitioned to On-Call work, we found ourselves running into each other by chance rather than by intention, wishing there was a way to make reconnecting easier! This frustration sparked the idea for CWRU Connect. We wanted to create an app to overcome the challenge of coordinating hangouts despite everyone's schedules. By integrating tools like Google Calendar and Campus Groups, CWRU Connect helps bridge the gap and turn moments of free time into opportunities to bring people together.

Key Features

  • Seamless Syncs: Syncs events from multiple calendars across multiple devices!
  • Campus Groups: Integrates with Campus Groups so you can easily discover events on campus!
  • Suggested Meetup Spots: CWRU Connect analyzes where people's last events were and suggests a possible hangout spot!

Why CWRU Connect Matters

The rising loneliness and mental health crisis have had an impact on the development of social skills and friend groups, especially after the pandemic. CWRU Connect will assist people in finding time to reach out and enjoy the company of others.

Development challenges

Due to schedule conflicts we ran separate brainstorming sessions and experienced some miscommunication about our project ideas. We settled on one quickly after meeting together and began hammering it out. Some people on our development team were fairly inexperienced with the techstack we were using Flutter and Firebase so it took some time to get up to full steam. The time constraints of the Hackathon made adding some of our more ambitious ideas, like having AI suggested meeting times and spots, difficult.
