About the Project
The Inspiration
I created SLCVBuilder because I believe every young person deserves a chance to present their skills and potential professionally.
As a young person in Sierra Leone, I have seen how difficult it can be for young people to create a good CV, especially when they don't have much experience or don't know what employers are looking for. A CV can be the first step toward an internship, job, training opportunity, or career, but many talented young people struggle with that first step.
That inspired me to create a simple tool that makes building a professional CV easier and more accessible.
What I Built
SLCVBuilder is a CV-building app that guides users through creating their CV by entering their personal information, education, experience, skills, and personal profile.
The goal is to make the process simple for young people who may be creating their first CV.
How I Built It
I started by thinking about the most important information someone needs when creating a CV. I then designed the project around a simple step-by-step experience so users can enter their information and see their CV come together.
I used AI as a learning and development assistant during the process. I also researched, tested, made changes, and worked through problems myself to understand how the project works.
What I Learned
Building SLCVBuilder taught me that creating a project is not only about writing code. It is also about understanding a real problem, designing for real users, testing ideas, and continuing when things don't work the first time.
I learned more about building digital products, using technology to solve problems, and turning an idea into something people can actually use.
Challenges
One of my biggest challenges was turning an idea into a working product while still learning along the way. I also had to think carefully about how to make the app simple enough for someone creating a CV for the first time.
Instead of giving up when I faced challenges, I used them as opportunities to learn and improve the project.
My Vision
SLCVBuilder is more than a CV builder to me. It represents an idea that young people have skills, talent, and potential, and technology can help them show it.
I hope to continue improving SLCVBuilder and eventually make it useful to more young people in Sierra Leone and beyond.
