Inspiration
As I grew up, I used to play a traditional card game where the winner was the first to discard all their cards. I played it when I didn't have many other game options, and it was a great way to kill time. The traditional game is still available, but you can only access it at specific locations, and it's played for cash prizes. However, now with our blockchain integration, you can play the game from anywhere and easily make payments from any country. This means you can play against anyone you want, regardless of their location.
What it does
It is currently a mobile card game where players stake a specific amount of CELO tokens and compete against each other in real time. The winner of each match claims the stakes placed by the other player.
How we built it
There is a custom game server to set up matches, connect players, and more. Google security is used to authenticate users to prevent fake accounts. The mobile game client is created using axmol engine. The smart contract is available on Alfajore as the testnet. The game client interacts with MetaMask SDK and smart contract methods to provide smooth usage for our dear players.
Challenges we ran into
Integrating MetaMask SDK to interact with the smart contract. MetaMask sdk-specific network error has nothing to do with the current project but affecting the deposit and withdrawal of tokens. Design decisions on the game. Fewer test tokens to test out the concept of staking by players. Unstable hosting provider's network to facilitate game matching of players. Getting cUSD to work is still a problem.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Only authenticated players can proceed to play to earn. Players can stake CELO tokens. Players can withdraw and deposit CELO tokens to their game account balance. Players can be matched with another to initiate a match to play.
What we learned
Unconventionality forces creativity. Most blockchain games are web-based, and some people claim that they are not fun to play because browser games are slow and consume too many resources. For instance, players have to download a copy each time they want to play. Keeping that in mind, we want to preserve the fun in games. Therefore, we have developed a dedicated app/game for handheld devices so that you can have an enjoyable and rewarding experience playing a game that is fast, smooth, and accessible to you.
What's next for Cutter Cards
Integrating NFTs. Adding seasonal events and tournaments. Adding other platforms like browsers. Adding social interaction eg local groups.
