Cutie Hack 2023 - Food Reminder

Food Reminder is an app that tracks the expiration date of groceries to give you a look of what's currently in the fridge and to reduce food waste from forgotten items.

Inspiration

We were inspired to create Food Reminder because we're constantly tossing away food in our home. Items that get pushed to the back of the fridge often go forgotten until it's too late to consume, meaning wasted food and money - not to mention the mysterious odors that linger in the kitchen for days.

What it does

The app displays a current inventory of food items in your fridge. The foods are labeled by quantity and time left until expiration. Users can add new items on their phone while grocery shopping, and they can remove items from the inventory after consumption.

How we built it

A concept of the app was made using Figma and Expo.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into issues early on deciding how to plan out and sort the different food items. Our final decision was to use a list view that the user can scroll through to see items at a glance.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of having something to present. :)

What we learned

We learned how to use Expo to test our code quickly between edits.

What's next for Cutie Hack 2023 - Food Reminder

Currently Food Reminder is not functional - we hope to work on back-end development in the near future!
