Inspiration
I’ve always loved koalas, they’re calm, chill, and impossibly cute. I wanted to capture that same peaceful, feel-good energy in a game that’s relaxing, rewarding, and irresistibly adorable. Cute Koala Clicker was born from that love, a cozy world where every tap brings more smiles and more koalas.
What it does
Cute Koala Clicker is an adorable idle game where players collect koalas, earn upgrades, and grow their collection with every tap. It’s designed to be a stress-free experience that rewards patience, curiosity, and that "just one more click" feeling.
How I built it
I built the game entirely inside Horizon Worlds using TypeScript, Custom UIs, and NPC conversations to create an immersive experience without any physical 3D models. Every interface, button, and interaction was scripted to deliver a seamless, high-performance experience. The design focuses on responsiveness and depth, proving that simplicity can still feel powerful and dynamic.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest hurdles were technical. Binding values between systems became a serious challenge, especially when working with massive numbers. TypeScript doesn’t handle extremely large integers well, and JSON storage hits limits fast. My solution? I converted huge numerical values into strings to bypass serialization limits, a clever workaround that kept performance smooth and progress tracking accurate.
I also had to rethink how UI scales. Several of my early custom UIs were too large and caused performance issues. I broke them into smaller, interconnected modules that talk to each other seamlessly, turning a crash problem into a modular, stable UI system.
Another key challenge was animation pacing. I slowed down the animations so players could enjoy the visual satisfaction of each click while still tapping rapidly, without overloading the system. This taught me a valuable lesson about balance, how to create a satisfying experience that feels lively without sacrificing stability or performance.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I built a complete, fully functional clicker game without a single 3D model. Everything, from upgrades to animations, is powered purely by UI logic and scripting. The result feels dynamic, smooth, and undeniably cute. Seeing players smile as their koala count skyrockets is one of my proudest moments as a creator.
What I learned
I learned just how far Horizon’s UI system can be pushed before hitting its limits, and how creative workarounds can turn those limits into design breakthroughs. I also learned the importance of pacing and performance harmony. This game taught me balance, between visuals, responsiveness, and system load, and how small design decisions can completely transform player experience.
What's next for Cute Koala Clicker
More koalas. More upgrades. More adorable chaos. Future updates will introduce new koala types, animated interactions, and community-based goals where players can work together to unlock world events. Cute Koala Clicker is only getting cuter from here.
