Cut the Crap
A browser extension that translates corporate LinkedIn-speak into the one honest sentence it was actually trying to say.
Inspiration
Everyone has scrolled past a 200-word LinkedIn post that took three paragraphs to say "I got a new job." We wanted to name that feeling and automate the cure. The idea crystallized around a simple test: could we take a genuinely bloated post and compress it down to something almost insultingly short, without losing the actual point?
Turns out, yes:
"Today, a simple moment on my walk served as a potent reminder of nature's ingenious capacity for strategic resourcefulness... [200+ more words about squirrels and leadership principles]" → "I saw a squirrel."
That gap between what corporate-speak says and what it means was funny enough to build a whole hackathon project around, and useful enough that we'd genuinely want to use it ourselves.
How we built it
The extension breaks down into three parts, which mapped naturally onto our three-person team: a piece that reads and rewrites the page itself, a piece that talks to the AI model doing the translating, and a piece that handles the on/off controls and stats you see as a user.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge wasn't technical, it was coordinating three people on the same codebase with only four hours on the clock. Keeping everyone's changes from stepping on each other, agreeing on how the pieces would connect before anyone started typing, and merging work back together without losing time to conflicts took real discipline under that kind of time pressure. There was no room for slow starts or redoing work, so getting the plan right up front mattered as much as writing the code itself.
