🧪 OwnBioScan – Our Story

💡 What Inspired Us

Every year, millions skip basic checkups. Why? Too expensive, too complex, or just… too annoying. 😩

We thought: what if a simple photo could replace a lab visit? OwnBioScan was born to turn that question into a solution—one that puts health diagnostics in your hands, with nothing more than a test strip, a drop of blood, and your smartphone.

A checkup without the clinic. A result without the waiting room. Simple, fast, and made for everyone—even your grandma 👵.

🛠 How We Built It

We focused our MVP on a cholesterol test that works 100% offline. Built entirely in Bolt.new (no custom backend), it includes: • 📱 A mobile-first UI with native Bolt.new components • 🎯 A smart flow: onboarding → visual guide → camera capture → AI result → PDF export • 🧠 A simulated AI that maps test strip colors to real-world cholesterol levels • 🔐 100% local: no login, no cloud—just localStorage

🚧 Challenges We Faced • 🧠 Simulating AI without a server? Yep. We built a believable visual-to-value logic based on dominant color extraction. • 👴 Designing for non-tech users meant keeping everything obvious: big buttons, clear steps, no jargon. • 🔒 Working within Bolt.new’s constraints pushed us to think modular, keep it client-side, and simulate intelligently.

🧠 What We Learned • ✂️ Constraints = clarity. Serverless forced us to simplify, and it paid off. • 🧪 You don’t need GPT-5 to deliver smart feedback. Visual logic + great UX = real value. • 🧓 Health tech needs empathy. We validated flows with real seniors and parents—and iterated.
