Inspiration
We are inspired by being non-native SU students without a car, and thus having a huge amount of difficulty accessing grocery stores and other food options.
What it does
This website allows users to navigate between multiple windows to access data related to food in the local community. A map provided has markers for food pantries, grocery stores, and community gardens. Locations and hours are provided for all, and when clicking 'get directions' the user is navigated to Google Maps with the address auto-filled for the user.
How we built it
The SQL database retrieves data from a "food_resources" table that we created gathering information from multiple public resources, including the CNY Food Bank. The data is insterted into multiple tables and populated into their respective descriptive columns.
Challenges we ran into
Our largest challenge was the time period we had to complete this project. We ran out of time to complete a lot of the separate pages. Another challenge we had was in uploading our video, as we ran into audio issues within the last 5 minutes to submit.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud that we were able to produce a SQL database of data collected from the Syracuse Food Bank. We are also proud to have completed a full user interface in the time given.
What we learned
We learned to budget out time more accordingly and to test audio beforehand.
What's next for CuseCommunityEats
We have many future plans, mainly using the created database filters to allow a user to filter their map results based on dietary restrictions such as kosher, gluten free, ,vegan, etc.
