Inspiration

We were interested in building a spherical coordinate system actuator that would be able to interact with an object without having to move it.

What it does

It moves an arm in a curvilinear path defined by a guide post.

How we built it

We used an Elegoo Uno for the microprocessor and manually cut the guide piece from wood.

Challenges we ran into

Setting up a limit switch so that the arm has a constrained range of movement. Working with the hardware. Introducing an arm to potentially hold a camera or other instrument.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Realizing a working version.

What we learned

We learned what we are able to accomplish in one day as a team.

What's next for Curvilinear Actuator

Going 3D! We would like to complete the actuator for the other dimension, which would allow us to do volumetric imaging, for example.
