Inspiration

We got inspired by the natural attraction that moths show towards light, no matter how far or how little, they always find a way to be around it. We wanted to explore the concept in other beings, or in this case, monsters! And how they would try to take that light all to themselves, can't let that happen!

What it does

The moon has been stolen by a mysterious monster who wants its light all to itself. You must venture through the darkest dungeons with the only company of a torch to light your way, yet you must use it carefully, as you're not alone... monsters roam in the dark and they love to follow the light.. You must find keys, avoid enemies, open doors, and recover the moon so it can light the night sky once more.

How we built it

We built Curse of the Flame by using Godot. One of us focused more on coding the core mechanics, levels of the game, monster coding, and music, while the other one worked on character designs, visuals, sound effects, and atmosphere. We worked as much as we could to test how far we could push the tension between light as safety and light as danger.

Challenges we ran into

Some of the challenges that we ran into were definitely time management; it was a bit challenging to match our busy schedules with school and all, so we had to really organize ourselves and balance this project with our personal lives, while also achieving every goal and idea we had of this project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are really proud of giving ourselves this challenge to make a game in one week! We had always talked about doing it for years, and now we finally did it! We are really proud to have taken this leap forward and just get into it!

What we learned

On one hand, I learned a lot about lighting in Godot, and of programming in general, which allowed me to expand on the skills I already had and develop new ones! On the other hand! I learn how to use Piskel and was given the chance to explore BeepBox and make some sound effects. It was a project out of my comfort zone, and I really enjoyed it!

What's next for Curse of the Flame

We are not so sure, but if we have the time and people like it, we will be more than happy to make more and polished levels with new monsters and more mechanics!
