Inspiration

We all are WFH due to COVID-19 and often times we forget to keep our room clean and water our plants in the garden. Most of the companies, use Slack for the communication. So we thought as the employee is going to use Slack for 7-8 hrs per day, why don't we make a bot for reminding them to do their chores.

What it does

The bot sends reminder to do your chores when you are WFH.

How we built it

We built it using Python. We used two libraries -Slack Client and Flask. Slack client helps us to interact with Slack API easily and Flask server is used to keep the bot running in an endpoint. We eventually pointed our localhost server to a ngrok endpoint for a public url

Challenges we ran into

As we both were from different time zones, it was a little hard for us to manage. This was our first time building a bot that too with Slack's API. We ran into different errors of scheduling the messages, setting reminders, ngrok issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We both did a great job making the bot work successfully. We were both new to working with Slack's API but it was super exciting to work and face challenges, and debug till 1am.

What we learned

Both of the teammates never used Python or made a bot or used Slack's API in other languages before. We learned so much jumping to new things and facing challenges and making progress

What's next for Curly-Reminder

We are really looking forward to make this bot as an 'established' bot like for example MEE6 in discord. We are really looking forward to expand the functionalities.
