💡 What Inspired Us
Modern intimacy is full of curiosity, but often lacks safe, shame-free spaces for people to explore their own desires — especially around kink and lifestyle choices. Most tools are either clinical, gamified inappropriately, or lack psychological grounding. We wanted to build something different — something thoughtful, warm, and rooted in self-awareness.
This led to the idea of Curio: a private, alias-based app that helps people discover their "Kink Quotient" (KQ) and offers personalized insight using psychology-backed surveys and creative suggestions.
🧠 What We Learned
- Deep dived into psychometric research and kink literature like the BDSM Identity Inventory, Wheel of Consent, and Big 5 trait models.
- Learned how to translate delicate emotional questions into affirming, non-judgmental UX.
- Balanced technical feasibility (client-side only) with data privacy, accessibility, and visual storytelling.
🛠️ How We Built It
- Created a full-stack spec and implemented it using Bolt Pro, using:
- Emoji-based Likert scale components
Chart.jsfor radar and bar visualizations- A scoring engine for the KQ and its subdimensions
- GPT-based narrative generation (with fallback logic)
- Built it as a fully client-side experience, requiring no login, with only a name or alias input.
- Used accessible, mobile-first UI with safe color schemes and optional dyslexia-friendly fonts.
🚧 Challenges We Faced
- Designing kink-related questions that are inclusive, safe, and culturally sensitive.
- Mapping psychological traits to kink archetypes in a way that felt human, not clinical.
- Balancing playfulness and depth in the tone — making it welcoming without trivializing intimacy.
- Working entirely within Bolt’s prompt-driven architecture while still keeping state, scoring logic, and charts all in-browser.
✅ Outcome
Curio is more than a quiz — it's a mirror for self-discovery. By the end of the journey, users receive:
- A personalized Kink Quotient (KQ)
- A visual kink profile
- A psychologically informed summary
- Creative, safe suggestions for exploration
And all of this — without ever asking for an email or identity.
⚠️ Disclaimer
This is an ongoing, exploratory tool.
While many questions are grounded in real research and behavioral psychology, the questionnaire is still in development and evolving.
Results are not meant to diagnose or label, but to spark reflection, curiosity, and conversation. We are actively working on improving test accuracy and legitimacy based on feedback and deeper validation.
