🚀 Inspiration
We wanted to reimagine learning not as memorization, but as exploration.
We asked ourselves: What if learning started with curiosity, not curriculum?
That led us to Curio — a playful yet powerful platform where curiosity is the starting point, and AI helps turn that into personalized learning adventures.
🧠 What it does
Curio is an AI-powered learning experience that builds interactive, age-tailored exploration journeys from just two inputs:
your age and your curiosity.
It generates:
- A 10-step story-driven path
- Narratives that teach through metaphor and imagination
- Multiple-choice questions and contextual hints
- A final concept — your “Curio Achievement” (e.g. Quark, Gravity, Democracy)
Each journey is unique. A 10-year-old exploring “Space” might end up at “Gravity.” A 17-year-old? “Dark Matter.”
🛠 How we built it
- Frontend: React + Tailwind CSS + Framer Motion for smooth, fun UI
- Content Generation: Perplexity AI (Sonar Pro) to generate structured exploration JSON from rich prompts
- Prompt Engineering: Custom narrative + schema scaffolding to produce age-sensitive, concept-linked story paths
- Deployment: Vercel for frontend hosting
- Design: Figma, Canva, and hand-drawn visual identity elements
⚠️ Challenges we ran into
- Designing prompts that created coherent, narrative-driven learning — not just trivia or static facts
- Making sure all answer options felt believable but had only one correct choice
- Balancing tone, complexity, and fun across age ranges
- Syncing dynamic JSON generation with UI transitions in a React environment
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Created a functional, playable learning experience in <48 hours
- Designed a visual identity and animated logo that reflects the Curio philosophy
- Generated multiple 10-step AI journeys for different age groups and topics — all working smoothly
- Developed a scalable learning format that could apply across subjects, languages, and learners
📚 What we learned
- Prompt design = product design. How you talk to the AI is how the product feels
- Kids don’t want dumbed-down learning — they want contextualized, engaging discovery
- Storytelling works better than structure alone — every lesson is more memorable in a narrative frame
- You don’t need a massive backend to make magic — great UX + powerful APIs = ✨
🔮 What's next for Curio
- Creator Mode: Let teachers, parents, or creators build and remix learning paths
- Multilingual Journeys: So kids everywhere can learn in their native language
- Voice Mode / Storybook Audio: For bedtime learning or accessible experiences
- Progress Tracking: So users can build their “Curiosity Map”
- Community Challenges: Where users create journeys for others to explore
Because curiosity isn’t a phase. It’s a superpower.
And Curio is just getting started. 💡
