Curequest: A Virtual Medical Hospital
🩺 Inspiration
Access to timely medical care is a persistent challenge, especially during emergencies and in rural or underserved regions. We were inspired to build Curequest to bridge this gap by integrating real-time live location tracking, enabling faster emergency response, efficient mobile clinic dispatch, and easy discovery of nearby health facilities.
💡 What it does
Curequest provides:
- Live location tracking with high accuracy for patients and healthcare providers.
- Emergency location sharing, broadcasting user location to family or services in real time.
- Nearby facilities discovery, helping users find hospitals, clinics, or pharmacies within a customizable radius.
- Mobile clinic dispatch, allowing clinics to locate patients for home visits or outreach programs.
- Location history logging for medical follow-up and safety records.
🛠️ How we built it
We built Curequest using:
- React Native for cross-platform mobile development.
- TypeScript for strong typing and maintainability.
- Expo Location API (and browser Geolocation API for web) for real-time tracking.
- MapView and Geocoding services for interactive maps and reverse geocoding.
- Custom components like
LocationPermissionModal,LiveLocationTracker, andNearbyFacilitiesMapto modularize features. - Node.js backend endpoints for emergency broadcasting and facility data management (where applicable).
⚠️ Challenges we ran into
- Handling location permission issues across Android, iOS, and web consistently.
- Optimizing battery consumption while maintaining real-time accuracy.
- Ensuring data privacy and security compliance, especially during emergency broadcasts.
- Managing mocked services vs. live APIs during development and testing phases.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully integrated comprehensive live location features with minimal user friction.
- Built a privacy-focused permission modal with multilingual support for broader accessibility.
- Enabled emergency live location sharing, which can save lives during critical health events.
- Created a scalable and modular architecture for future healthcare feature expansions.
📚 What we learned
- The critical role of clear user consent flows in handling sensitive data like location.
- Advanced techniques for optimizing geolocation performance while preserving device battery.
- Importance of designing for offline or low-signal scenarios in medical applications.
🚀 What's next for Curequest: A Virtual Medical Hospital
- Implement geofencing to trigger automatic alerts when users enter/leave designated safe zones.
- Integrate ambulance tracking and ETA sharing within the emergency module.
- Develop an AI-powered symptom checker to assist users before consulting doctors.
- Expand to include wearable integration for vitals-based emergency detection.
- Collaborate with health ministries to scale mobile clinic dispatch programs nationwide.
Curequest is more than an app – it is a step towards equitable, accessible, and rapid healthcare for all.
