Inspiration

Every time I saw curbside piles waiting for council pickup, I noticed that many items still had life in them — a chair, a desk, even a sofa that someone else could use. I kept wondering: how can we connect these treasures with people who need them, instead of letting them go to waste?
Curbside Quest was born to help people find useful items, promote sustainability, and reduce unnecessary waste pickups.

What it does

Curbside Quest turns bulky waste into community treasure hunts. Users can report curbside piles, add photos, and tag items with the help of AI. Others can browse and discover treasures nearby, giving pre-loved items a second life.

How we built it

Curbside Quest is being built collaboratively with Kiro, using modern web tools and AI-driven tagging to streamline the reporting process.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was navigating differences between V1 and V2 of the Google Maps/Location APIs — deciding which functionality to use took some experimentation.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It’s still early days, but the big accomplishment is that Curbside Quest is live. The foundation is there, even though we don’t have users yet.

What we learned

We learned how to vibe code 😊 — keeping development fun and collaborative while bringing the idea to life.

What's next for Curbside Quest

The next step is rollout: opening the platform to real users so they can start finding and sharing treasures. The hope is that Curbside Quest will help people furnish their homes, cut down on waste, and benefit the environment.
