Inspiration
Access to reliable health information remains a challenge for millions of people, especially in underserved communities. During disease outbreaks and public health crises, people often struggle to know whether their symptoms require attention, where to seek help, or how to access trustworthy guidance.
We wanted to explore how Artificial Intelligence could help bridge this gap by providing accessible health guidance while also contributing to community-level health awareness.
This inspired us to create Cura+ Sentinel, an AI-powered health companion that helps users understand symptoms, analyze health-related images, locate healthcare resources, and identify unusual community health trends through anonymized data analysis.
What it does
Cura+ Sentinel is a multilingual AI health assistant powered by Gemini.
Users can:
- Describe symptoms through natural language.
- Interact with the system using voice.
- Upload images of wounds, burns, skin conditions, or medication packaging for AI-assisted analysis.
- Receive health guidance and recommendations for seeking professional care.
- Find nearby healthcare facilities.
The platform also includes Sentinel, a community health monitoring system that anonymously aggregates symptom reports to detect unusual increases in health-related signals within a region.
Rather than diagnosing diseases, Sentinel provides early awareness indicators that can help communities stay informed.
How we built it

Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was balancing usefulness with responsibility.
Healthcare applications must be designed carefully. We wanted the AI to provide meaningful guidance while ensuring it never presents itself as a medical professional or generates definitive diagnoses.
Another challenge was designing the Sentinel system. Detecting unusual symptom patterns while avoiding false conclusions required careful thinking about how information should be presented to users.
Building a multilingual experience that works consistently across all AI-powered features was also an important technical challenge.
What we learned
Throughout this project we learned:
- How to integrate Gemini API into real-world applications.
- How multimodal AI can combine text, voice, and image understanding.
- How Firebase and Google Cloud can accelerate rapid product development.
- The importance of designing AI systems that are both useful and responsible.
We also learned that AI can have an impact beyond individual users by helping communities better understand health trends and access information more effectively.
