CUNY Campus Connection App

About the Project

The CUNY Campus Connection app was inspired by the need to streamline how students across the City University of New York's 25 campuses access essential resources. As a former student, I experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating the vast array of services and opportunities available. This inspired me to create a solution that would make it easier for students to find and utilize the support they need to succeed academically and personally.

What I Learned

Through this project, I gained valuable insights into the diverse needs of the CUNY student body. I learned how crucial it is to create a user-friendly interface that accommodates a wide range of users, from freshmen at community colleges to graduate students at professional institutions. I also deepened my understanding of how to integrate multiple services and resources into a single, cohesive platform.

How I Built the Project

The app was built using React Native and Expo, allowing for a seamless experience across both iOS and Android devices. I utilized some custom APIs to pull in various CUNY resources. The design process involved extensive research and user testing to ensure that the app was intuitive and accessible to all students.

Challenges Faced

One of the biggest challenges was managing the integration of data from multiple campuses, each with its unique systems and resources. Ensuring that the app provided relevant and up-to-date information for every user was a complex task that required careful planning and execution. Additionally, balancing the needs of such a diverse user base while maintaining a simple and elegant design was a constant challenge. However, overcoming these obstacles made the project all the more rewarding, knowing that it could positively impact the student experience at CUNY.
