Inspiration

One of our team members was putting on her makeup at the beginning of Pearl Hacks. Later, when our team was brainstorming and ideating we saw the makeup in her bag! Everyone is familiar with the fact that makeup contains a lot of harmful ingredients. We identified the pain point that consumers are not well informed of what is in the products they use every day.

What it does

The Cumulus Beauty website allows users to check the heal some of the best selling cosmetic products best and healthiest form of beauty by showcasing 6 product categories, each with the top 5 ranked products, product information, and ickiness rating. Our website cross-references the bestselling makeup products on Sephora with information about icky ingredients from incidecoder.com in order to better inform consumers!

How we built it

We built this website using primarily Bootstrap, with HTML and CSS. We referenced the official documentations! We shared our code via GitHub to collaborate, and used VS Code to write and edit our code on our computers.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered some difficulty setting up our products page and making our pages responsive. We also had some initial issues when setting up Bootstrap.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Part of our team had limited previous experience with HTML and CSS. We were able to navigate around that and learn together to create a great website that will help customer experience, retail, experience, and much more! We are also proud that we got this far in the project before the deadline!

What we learned

We were able to learn more about the functionality of HTML and CSS within websites. Being able to reference tutorial videos from YouTube helped us learn more about the development of our home page, products page, about us page, and contact us page. YouTube videos referenced:

What's next for Cumulus Beauty

Cumulus Beauty will be expanded to all products in Sephora that will include a database to collect specific data that we can facilitate in the website. Cumulus Beaty will also be able to be translated into Spanish so that there is more accessibility for people who wear makeup worldwide!
