Inspiration

We realized that the young generation does not seem as culturally versed as the elderly generation is. The elderly generation usually frown upon us for this. So we propose a solution. We connect elderly people with the young generation or even old people with old people who want to learn something about a culture. From there they go to a video chat and then the "teacher" can either share their life experiences and their culture.

What it does

It matches people via video chat and enables the young generation to learn about the experiences and culture.

How we built it

We built it using Spring framework and gradle. We saved it on dropbox and then collaborated on it and worked on different parts of it.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into a challenge about integration of gruveo into our project since it requires a https connection.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Proud of the matching algorithm we came up with and the overall idea.

What we learned

We had quite a hard time looking for an api for video chatting but we learned that gruveo is a good one to do this. But we also learned that it needs an HTTPS connection.

What's next for Culturely

Actually establishing a HTTPS connection and getting the video chat working. Then getting in touch with senior centers to get the elderly interested in doing this and signing up!
