Inspiration
Brands spend billions sponsoring cultural moments — athletes, musicians, viral trends — completely blind. When Drake's attention tanks after the Kendrick beef, Nike has no financial instrument to offset that risk. Forum changes this. CultureDesk is the professional interface that makes it actionable.
What it does
CultureDesk is a cultural risk terminal built on Forum's live attention exchange. Enter any brand or cultural topic — CultureDesk fetches real-time attention prices from Forum's API, generates an institutional analyst memo with a LONG, SHORT, or HOLD verdict, and executes a live hedge trade directly on Forum's platform. It's a Bloomberg Terminal for cultural risk.
How we built it
Node.js + Express backend with a single-page terminal-style frontend. Forum's API handles live market data and trade execution via HMAC-SHA256 authenticated requests. Claude AI (claude-sonnet-4-5) analyzes real Forum price data — 24h change, weekly trend, volume — and produces sharp hedge fund style memos with thesis, catalysts, risks, and recommendations.
Challenges
Forum's API uses HMAC-SHA256 signing which required a server-side proxy. We also built a rule-based fallback system so the app stays reliable under any API constraints — using the same real Forum market data.
Accomplishments
Fully working app that places real trades on Forum's live exchange. The analyst memos reference actual Forum attention prices — when Drake's index shows weekly decline, Claude references the Kendrick beef with specific price targets.
What we learned
Forum's attention index is a genuinely powerful financial instrument. The institutional angle — brands hedging cultural risk — is Forum's real business model and nobody is building that layer yet.
What's next
Automated hedging that rebalances your cultural exposure book automatically. A B2B API for agencies to embed CultureDesk into media planning workflows.
