💡 Inspiration

CultureCompass AI was inspired by the idea that discovering something new often starts with something we already love. Music can lead us to movies, food can introduce us to new cultures, and our interests can inspire exciting travel experiences. We wanted to create a simple, engaging platform that helps people explore these connections and discover new experiences.

CultureCompass AI is a cultural discovery web application that allows users to explore interests across different categories, including music, movies, food, and travel.

Users can enter an interest, explore related discovery categories, and find inspiration for new experiences through a clean, interactive interface. The project aims to demonstrate how cultural interests can become a starting point for exploration and discovery.

🛠️ How We Built It

We built CultureCompass AI using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

• HTML structures the website and its content.
• CSS provides a modern, responsive design for desktop and mobile devices.
• JavaScript powers the interactive search, suggested topics, and dynamic discovery cards.
• Netlify hosts the website and makes it accessible through a public URL.

The current version is a frontend prototype with illustrative recommendations. Live Qloo API integration through a secure backend is a planned next step.

📚 What We Learned

While developing this project, we explored how to design an interactive web application, create a responsive mobile-friendly interface, organize frontend code, and deploy a website using Netlify. We also learned about the importance of API security and the role cultural data can play in building discovery experiences.

🚧 Challenges We Faced

One of our main challenges was building and deploying the project within a limited time. We focused on creating a lightweight application that works without complex installation or build steps. Another important challenge was understanding how to integrate an external API securely without exposing private credentials in browser-side code.

🔮 What's Next

Our next goal is to integrate the Qloo API through a secure backend to retrieve real cultural data and generate more meaningful recommendations. We also plan to expand the discovery experience with richer connections between music, entertainment, food, and travel.
