Inspiration

This project was inspired by the struggles that students face going to new schools, especially post-secondary where one must meet new people. It can be isolating and also a culture-shock for international students. Culture club allows students a safe environment to connect with members of their own culture and celebrate other cultures as well.

What it does

It is a social app that allows clubs to post events to a feed viewable by other users looking to attend social cultural events.

How we built it

We built this app by approaching the problem space with a double diamond method. We then went into various phases of ideation, design, iteration, to move from low fidelity to high fidelity mock-ups and then prototyping.

Challenges we ran into

It was challenging to work without a developer. However, we managed to face this by producing functioning prototypes that are as realistic as possible to get the message of our idea across.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of completing a testable prototype within the hackathon deadline.

What we learned

From this project we learned about having an adaptable and streamlined process. With the constraint of time, extension research was unattainable. This caused us to operate on assumptions which highlighted the importance of validating solutions.

What's next for Culture Club

We are hoping to build out our MVP and have added features such as geolocation to allow users' feed to showcase events near them based on location. In addition we would like to scale the app to a global level to allow cultural associations around the world to connect.
