Inspiration
Many people in this world have a habit of procrastinating and a tendency to derive from our tasks. Often, there is no one to hold them accountable for their slipups, even when those involve missing out on important opportunities.
What it does
Cultivate keeps track of your goals and ensures you stay consistent by implementing a virtual garden system, which either rewards or punishes you with healthy or unhealthy flowers, depending on how well and how much you commit to your tasks. Cultivate also includes a Buddy System, adding an extra layer of accountability for your peers.
How we built it
We used Visual Studio Code, HTML, CSS, Python, and GitHub. We communicated consistently,
Challenges we ran into
We realized that working with XCode and the Swift UI languages can be particularly challenging, especially for newcomers. Making the switch to Python early on was a smart decision on our end, to avoid wasting more precious hours of coding.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- When we initially got the website link to show up on our README.md
- Successfully implementing new systems and pages within our site
- Illustrating working sprites and animations within our site
- Connecting the logic in Python to HTML and CSS
What we learned
- How to work as a team (eventually), coordinating our work seamlessly and evaluating our different skills
- How to read and assess bugs in code
- How to break big tasks into smaller ones
- How to plan ahead
- That XCode and Swift sucks
What's next for Cultivate App
Finish implementing the algorithms, make sure we get proper user input and polishing the interface of Cultivate.
