Inspiration

Modern traveling takes up a lot of money and for the people wanting to travel to other countries and experience different cultures, they are caged inside their homes. Although traveling to other countries can connect a person to another culture, there are a variety of other ways to achieve that goal. One of them is food. Every country has food of its own identity that it can account for and for people who wish to connect to it at a cheaper cost, food is the best way to go.

What it does

One of the best and most accessible forms of adventure comes through trying new foods. Here at Cuisine Avengers, we make it easy for you to explore the world of food by giving you the option to choose a cuisine or specific ingredient. Then, we generate a list of recipes for you to try based on your preferences. Travel the world through your taste buds in the comfort of your own home.

How we built it

Our user interface was designed with Figma. These Figma designs were then replicated in a mobile app environment using JavaScript's React Native framework. By using expo, we are able to see changes made to our app during the development process in real-time.

Challenges we ran into

We wanted to have two ways to search for recipes. However, the API we implemented only supported searching by cuisine. Furthermore, we did not have the time to find a second API that would allow us to search by ingredient.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our designs and functionality of our app! We really like the color palette and theme we choose for our user interface. Prior to this weekend, we had very little experience with React Native, but we were able to implement features we had never used before.

What we learned

We improved our Figma skills and learned how to use React Native to build apps. We learned that the back-end for projects is time consuming, and that we should allocate more time for that in the future.

What's next for Cuisine Avengers

We would love to fix the search bar, add a search by ingredients feature, offer search by dietary restriction for users, and also have links/integration of video tutorials for recipes.
