CUE is a conversational bakery workflow assistant for solo bakers managing multiple production tasks, waiting periods, task dependencies, and inspection requirements.

Baking is more than following a recipe in order. A baker may be preparing one batch while another is cooling, another is chilling, and a third is waiting on a prerequisite. In these situations, the real challenge is not just knowing what comes next — it is understanding what is actually ready, what is waiting, what is blocked, and what still needs human verification before work can continue.

CUE helps solve this by combining a visual production board with a conversational interface. It tracks production state, distinguishes waiting tasks from ready tasks, surfaces eligible work, and highlights blockers and inspection requirements. This helps bakers understand the status of a production run without reconstructing the entire workflow from memory.

Instead of treating a timer as proof that a component is ready, CUE keeps elapsed time separate from actual readiness. It also supports confirmation-based updates so a user can review a proposed change before it is applied, reducing the risk of accidental or ambiguous state changes during an active production run.

CUE is a prototype designed to explore how workflow-aware conversational tools can support real-world bakery operations, reduce coordination overhead, and make production decisions easier to interpret during interruptions or multitasking.

What it does

Tracks bakery production tasks across different product workflows Distinguishes between task states such as ready, waiting, blocked, in progress, and needs inspection Identifies which tasks are eligible based on recorded prerequisites Provides quick status checks through a conversational interface Shows the full production state in a visual dashboard Requires confirmation before applying task or status updates Keeps elapsed time separate from physical readiness, so timing does not automatically imply a task is complete Supports product-specific workflows and dependency-aware progression logic How we built it

We designed CUE around a real bakery workflow rather than a generic task list. The app models product workflows separately from individual production runs, so the same workflow logic can be reused while each batch keeps its own state and progress.

The prototype combines:

a web-based production board deterministic workflow rules for task eligibility and transitions a conversational status layer for quick lookups and guidance confirmation flows before state changes are finalized client-side persistence for local sample use a static deployment model suitable for lightweight web hosting The central idea is that workflow logic should be authoritative, while the conversational interface should help the user understand and act on that state. This keeps the system interpretable, safer, and easier to validate.

The goal is not to replace the baker’s judgment, but to support it with a clearer understanding of what is happening, what can happen next, and what still needs confirmation before continuing.
