🧠 INSPIRATION

Life is busy. Too busy. I had more things to do than time to do them. I started missing important moments: deadlines at work, personal commitments, and small promises that mattered more than I realized. Over time, it began to affect both my productivity and my relationships. I needed a good way to stay on track. So I went on a search for a reminders app. I tried over a dozen apps. Most felt overly simplified, dull, or outdated. In many apps, reminders were just a small feature buried inside a much larger app focused on productivity. Even reminder-first apps felt antiquated and disconnected from the dynamic nature of modern life. Reminders showed up as noisy, spam-like alerts. They were easy to dismiss, easy to ignore, and quickly forgotten. They felt robotic and failed to enable action. While searching for a better reminders app, I came across Sam Beckman’s brief for the Shipyard Hackathon. It immediately felt like the right time and the right challenge to reimagine reminders entirely. Could we make notifications more colorful?
Instead of a sterile system alert, what if a friend or partner could nudge you? What if reminders felt a little more…human?

🧩 THE CHALLENGE

How do we take something tedious like reminders and make it engaging? Creating reminders isn’t exciting, and doing the task afterward is often less appealing. But when you truly want to accomplish something, that experience should feel easy and intuitive. We weren’t interested in building another boring reminders app. There are already hundreds of them and they all look the same. Our goal was different: build powerful reminders that incite action.
