Inspiration
Inspiration
This project was born from a difficult reality in my city, Cúcuta. Many women who face situations of violence do not know where to go, who to call, or what steps to take to protect themselves.
In moments of crisis, time matters. Searching through multiple websites, numbers, or institutions can become another barrier when what is really needed is immediate help.
My motivation was simple but powerful: no woman in our border city should have to navigate a fragmented system alone when her safety is at risk.
That is why Cúcuta Conecta was created — a platform designed to transform uncertainty into clear paths toward help, information, and protection.
What it does
Cúcuta Conecta is a web platform that centralizes critical support resources for women in Cúcuta.
The platform provides:
Access to emergency lines
Information about family support institutions
Legal assistance resources
Psychological support options
Temporary shelter routes
A chatbot that offers immediate guidance
A map of resources organized by zones in the city
The goal is simple: reduce the time between a moment of danger and access to help.
How we built it
This project was developed during a 48-hour hackathon focused on creating solutions aligned with the spirit of the International Women's Day (8M).
The prototype was built using web technologies to create a fast and accessible platform that works well even on mobile devices and low internet connections.
Key components include:
A simple and intuitive user interface
A resource map adapted to the zones of Cúcuta
A chatbot designed to guide users step by step
Direct access to emergency support contacts
The focus was on speed, accessibility, and clarity, ensuring that the information could be accessed quickly in urgent situations.
Challenges we ran into
Building this project in such a short time came with several challenges.
One of the biggest challenges was identifying and organizing reliable local resources in Cúcuta, ensuring the information could truly help someone in need.
Another challenge was designing the platform in a way that is simple enough to use in stressful situations, while still providing meaningful guidance.
But perhaps the most important challenge was understanding the responsibility behind building a tool that could potentially help someone during a critical moment in their life.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of our biggest accomplishments was transforming an idea into a working prototype in less than 48 hours. What started as a concern about the lack of accessible information for women in vulnerable situations became a real platform that centralizes critical support resources for Cúcuta.
We are especially proud of designing a solution that focuses not only on technology, but also on empathy and accessibility. The platform was built to be simple, fast, and usable even in stressful situations where someone might urgently need help.
Another important achievement was creating a localized resource system, organizing emergency contacts, institutions, and support services specifically for the city of Cúcuta, making the information more relevant and practical for those who need it.
Finally, we are proud that this project represents more than just code. It represents the possibility of using technology to create awareness, support communities, and potentially help save lives.
For us, the greatest accomplishment is knowing that a digital tool like Cúcuta Conecta could one day help someone find guidance and safety when they need it most.
What we learned
This experience reminded me that technology is not only about code — it is about people and impact.
Through this project I learned:
The importance of designing technology with empathy
How digital tools can support vulnerable communities
That small ideas can grow into meaningful solutions when they are driven by purpose
What's next for Cúcuta Conecta
Cúcuta Conecta is only the beginning. While the current prototype demonstrates how technology can centralize support resources for women in vulnerable situations, the vision for the project goes much further.
In the next stages, we aim to expand and strengthen the platform to make it a more powerful tool for protection, guidance, and community support.
Our next goals include:
Expanding the resource database by integrating more local institutions, shelters, legal services, and psychological support centers.
Improving the chatbot guidance system to provide more personalized recommendations based on different situations and locations.
Implementing geolocation features to help users find the nearest safe places and support services.
Developing a discreet emergency alert system that allows women to request help quickly and safely.
Building a community support network, where trusted volunteers or safe locations can act as points of assistance.
Scaling the platform to other cities in Colombia, adapting resources to each region.
Our long-term vision is for Cúcuta Conecta to become a trusted digital support network, helping women access the right information and protection when they need it most.
Because access to information, support, and safety should never depend on luck — it should always be within reach.
