Inspiration

Cubi was inspired by my own experience of wanting to switch careers but feeling overwhelmed by where to start. I wanted to create a tool that makes career change clearer, more personal, and less intimidating.

What it does

Cubi is an AI-powered career companion that turns education, projects, and personal learning into a clear path toward your dream career. It analyzes university courses, uploaded projects, and self-taught skills to reveal what you already know, identify the skills employers are looking for, and recommend the most relevant next steps. Through an interactive career tree and a growing virtual cub, Cubi transforms career planning from a confusing checklist into a personalized, motivating journey—where every course, project, and new skill helps you level up.

How we built it

I built Cubi as an interactive web application using AI to power skill extraction, career matching, and progress tracking. Users can enter their education, upload projects, and add independently learned skills or certifications. Cubi then uses AI to organize this information into a structured skill profile, compares it with the requirements of a target career, and generates personalized recommendations.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges I faced was translating different types of experiences such as university courses, personal projects, and self-learning into consistent and meaningful skill data. It was also difficult to present a large amount of career information without overwhelming the user. I had to simplify the interface while still providing enough detail for users to understand their progress and make informed decisions. Another challenge I ran into was designing recommendations that feel relevant and achievable rather than presenting users with a long, generic list of missing skills.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I was able to deliver something that I now use on my daily basis, where everything is being kept tracked. Cubi gives me one place to track my courses, projects, skills, and career progress. Instead of keeping everything in separate documents or trying to remember what I have learned, I can clearly see how each experience contributes to my future career. I am also proud that the product makes career planning feel more encouraging through its visual career tree and evolving virtual cub.

What we learned

Building Cubi taught me that people often have more transferable skills than they realize. The main problem is not always a lack of experience, but the difficulty of identifying, organizing, and communicating that experience. I also learned that career guidance must be personalized. Two people may want the same job but require completely different learning paths depending on their education, projects, and previous experiences. Most importantly, I learned that career development becomes less intimidating when progress is visible, broken into manageable steps, and connected to a clear goal.

What's next for Cubi - your Career Cub

Currently, Cubi is running on mock data only (for my personal career growth path), and I am planning to take the app and actually launch it later on; there will be much more to improve in the near future. Future versions will include stronger project evaluation, multilingual support, personalized learning recommendations, improved career-tree visualizations, and more ways for users to track progress over time.
