Inspiration
Back in the old flash games day, there was a game where you had to roll a cube through a series of levels with increasing difficulty and land on a target spot
What it does
You have control of a cube and have to roll it over to the target spot in less than the available moves. You have a couple of retries that refill daily and also have varying difficulties which multiply the scores. Each day your retries are refilled and you can retry a level to try replacing your best score
How we built it
Together with a designer friend we split up development and design. I focused on the gameplay mechanics using Unity and he focused on the designs using Figma and Rive. The game itself is very simple and can be customized to many more flavours of difficulty
Challenges we ran into
Generating the algorithms to create and validate the levels automatically required some extensive testing, other than that we had plans to monetize infinite life's but couldn't find many resources about Reddit products from within Unity
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The game looks really minimal and clean, the music is great and the animations feel right. Everything feel connected
What we learned
Devvit ecosystem is really nice from a development standpoint
What's next for CubeZ
More difficulties, game modes and monetization
