Inspiration

Waiting for a taxi or the school's Jitney in small-town rural Maine is a pain when you don't have a car. How can we make a live and more reliable ride-share program that connects students without cars with student drivers on rural college campuses?

What Cuber does

  • As a passenger, users can request a ride from location A to location B. If a online driver accepts, the ETA of the driver displays. If no drivers accept the request, a push notification is sent to all "online" drivers.
  • As a driver, users can set their status as "online" for when they are on call and readily available to drive. They can also see a list of ride requests on the app and decide which trip they would like to make. When the driver is "offline" no push notifications are sent to them.
  • Additional Features: Jitney and shuttle bus tracker.

Why we need CUber

Students at Colby College along with many other small, rural, and isolated college campuses do not all have cars or a form of reliable off-campus transportation. What happens when you need to go on a Wal-Mart run during mid-term week and the next available taxi is an hour away? You can't get the snacks and red bull you need to stay awake.

This app connects the population of available drivers with students who need to make short trips to areas where reliable public transportation does not exist.
