Inspiration
One of our members is a transfer student an found difficulty discovering clubs since at UCSC students did not often do tabling events, so the idea for a social thread app for university clubs to post updates came to us.
What it does
The app is basically a thread platform for clubs to post on. It requires a .edu email to figure out what school a student goes to, and display the clubs from that school. The main features are the for you, following, and explore threads. The for you thread shows updates for clubs that are tailored to your interests, the following thread keeps track of the clubs you follow, and the explore thread helps you discover new clubs that aren't in your typical interests. Theres also the option for students to create clubs , and post events as such.
How we built it
We built layout of the app layout initially entirely through Figma, and the website in javascript, css, and html, using Claude code as taught by the CodeLab workshop.
Challenges we ran into
As first time Hackers, we weren't too familiar with our options or tools. So we decided to take a few workshop to steer our project into a certain direction. After taking the Figma workshop and the CodeLab workshop we decided to create a Figma mockup and a website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As first time hackers were most proud of the fact that we were able to create two mostly finished products within a reasonable time frame.
What we learned
Throughout this process we have vastly improved our Figma and coding skills. We are now far more proficient with Figma and much more knowledgable coders
