CU AI CAMPUS ASSIST

Inspiration University students often struggle to quickly access important campus information such as locations of facilities, hostel details, events, and administrative services. Most of this information is scattered across multiple websites, notice boards, and portals, which makes it difficult and time-consuming for students to find what they need. We were inspired to create CU AI Campus Assistant, an intelligent platform that brings all campus services together and allows students to simply ask questions and get instant answers using AI. What it does CU AI Campus Assistant is an AI-powered smart dashboard designed to help students easily navigate and interact with campus services. The platform integrates a conversational AI chatbot powered by the Gemini API that answers questions about campus facilities, services, and general information. It also includes features such as campus navigation, a lost and found reporting system, facility highlights for places like the library, cafeteria, hostel, and administration block, and information about upcoming events. The goal is to provide a single intelligent interface where students can quickly access everything they need on campus. How we built it The project was built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create a responsive and visually appealing web dashboard. We designed a modern interface inspired by university management systems and campus dashboards. The AI chatbot was integrated using the Google Gemini API, which allows the system to process natural language questions and generate helpful responses. Additional features such as the lost and found system were implemented using browser local storage, while campus navigation uses Google Maps links to help students easily locate important places on campus. Challenges we ran into One of the main challenges we faced was integrating the Gemini API correctly and handling errors when the AI response was not returned properly. We also needed to ensure that the user interface remained clean and intuitive while adding multiple features like navigation, AI chat, and lost and found. Another challenge was designing the dashboard so that it looked modern and professional while keeping the project lightweight and easy to deploy. Accomplishments that we're proud of We are proud of creating a fully functional AI-powered campus assistant that integrates multiple useful student services into one platform. The project successfully combines a conversational AI interface with practical features such as navigation, facility visualization, and community support through the lost and found system. We also built a visually appealing dashboard that makes interacting with campus services easier and more engaging for students. What we learned Through this project we learned how to integrate Generative AI APIs into real applications and how AI can improve user interaction in everyday services. We also gained experience in designing user-friendly dashboards, handling API responses, and building interactive web applications using JavaScript. Most importantly, we learned how AI can be applied to solve practical problems faced by students in educational environments. What's next for CU AI CAMPUS ASSIST In the future, we plan to expand CU AI Campus Assistant into a complete smart campus platform. Planned improvements include real-time campus navigation, integration with university databases for academic information, event recommendations, and personalized student assistance. We also aim to add features like voice-based interaction, mobile app support, and integration with official university systems to make the assistant even more useful for students.
