(FWF) Future Without Fake

Problem

The problem our app tries to solve is the spreading of fake news on the internet, especially in a period of crisis such as the current pandemic.

Solution

Future Without Fake allows the user to know if a news is reliable by performing operations on the url and on the webpage of the news. The program will scan for abnormalities in the url ad alert the user if something is not right and give a percentage on how reliable might the site be.

What have we done during the weekend

During this weekend we have learned how to create a server using Firebase and we learned how to make an app using android studio. We made the client app that wil interact with the user and we made the backend server that will handle the operations. We had to face multiple issues with the server not working, but the biggest challenge was to organise between our daily life, the hackathon.

Impact on the crisis

This solution might have a great impact on the crisis. Future Without Fake can identify sites and news articles that spread fake news about COVID-19. FWF is also easy to to use making it perfect for people of all ages and with different technical experience.

Necessities in order to continue the project

Future Without Fake needs more time to be fully developed and it also needs experts willing to help to identify common traits between fake news.

Value after the crisis

Future Without Fake will be useful after the crisis has ended. Fake news will not end with the pandemic and the goal of Future Without Fake is to prevent the spreading of them.
