We wanted to create something that condenses the horrors of climate change through an innocent-looking traditional game. Who would've known that it has a plot twist! Inspired by Braid, we made a game that contains similar elements of storytelling with strong underlying themes.

What it does

Teaches players (ideally youth) of the hidden effects of fossil fuels through the analogy of crystals which are collected throughout the game.

How I built it

Python's pygame module and artwork via Photoshop.

Challenges I ran into

Animation implementation within the code is difficult.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We established the storyline (though rough), albeit gameplay is lacking.

What I learned

We need to work with different languages, too constricted with Python. Combining art and coding involves a lot more effort and understanding to implement.

What's next for Crystal Boy

Move to another coding platform! Possibly C++ or Java, and after we can make a sequel by tackling another variety of social issues!
