Inspiration
Seeing the prompt "predict the future" and being hit with the variety of companies in the brief gave us a wild idea with the goal of integrating as many of these different technologies as possible. The crystal ball idea came around at the same time as a literal manifestation of the theme.
What it does
The ball is an AI interface tuned to respond in a certain manner, linking loads of the technologies we had at our disposal. The crystal ball is fully animated, with different idle and thinking animations.
How we built it
We each took a technology to look at, and worked on our individual implementations of each technology. For example, at any given time some of us were working with TalkJs which was, using Gemini through Openrouter, interacting with Elevenlabs at the end for the user.
We also went through a few iterations of physical devices associated with our program, initially planning to host it all from the ARM based Raspberry Pi 5.
Challenges we ran into
Time crunches! Our first hackathon between us all was a very hectic experience, simultaneously feeling like we had all the time in the world and none at all!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Managed to work well as a team, despite not being very familiar with each other at the start of the hackathon. We used GitHub effectively with few issues, communicated well, and efficiently split up the workload between us depending on our individual skill sets.
What we learned
How important it is to be clear on who is working on what, in order to maximise efficiency. Also, you need to be explicit when you are pushing to the remote repository, so people aren't working on old code for hours and hours.
What's next for Crystal Ball
Hosting the Node.js server which handles messages and querying AI on a Raspberry Pi, possibly contained within a physical crystal ball prop.
