About the Project
CryptoSplitter was inspired by a simple real-world problem: splitting group expenses is still unnecessarily complicated, especially when payments happen in crypto. Whether it’s dinner with friends, a trip, or shared subscriptions, people often end up manually calculating amounts, sending reminders, or dealing with trust issues around repayments. We wanted to create a seamless Web3-native solution that makes shared payments as easy as a single transaction.
The idea was to combine the familiarity of expense-sharing apps with the transparency and automation of blockchain technology. Instead of relying on screenshots, spreadsheets, or messaging apps, CryptoSplitter allows users to create an event, add participants using their EVM wallet addresses, and automatically calculate each person’s share. Once the bill is split, users can settle their debt instantly with one click through on-chain transactions.
How We Built It
CryptoSplitter was built using a modern Web3 stack focused on usability and smart contract interaction. The frontend was designed to be simple and intuitive so that even users new to crypto can navigate the platform easily. We integrated wallet connectivity for EVM-compatible accounts and built smart contract logic to handle transparent expense tracking and repayments directly on-chain.
The application flow includes:
Creating shared expense events Adding participants with wallet addresses Automatically calculating equal payment shares Triggering one-click crypto repayments Recording settlements transparently on-chain What We Learned
Building CryptoSplitter taught us a lot about designing user-friendly Web3 experiences. One of the biggest lessons was balancing blockchain complexity with a smooth UI/UX. We learned how important transaction clarity, wallet interactions, and gas optimization are when building consumer-facing decentralized applications.
We also gained hands-on experience with:
Smart contract development and testing Managing wallet connections and transaction states Handling asynchronous blockchain interactions Designing practical real-world Web3 applications Challenges We Faced
One of the biggest challenges was ensuring smooth wallet interactions while keeping the user experience simple. Blockchain transactions can introduce delays, failed confirmations, or confusing error states, so we had to carefully design feedback and transaction flows.
Another challenge was maintaining accurate split calculations and settlement tracking while ensuring everything remained transparent and verifiable on-chain. We also focused heavily on making the app intuitive enough for non-technical users, since mass adoption of Web3 tools depends on simplicity and usability.
Overall, CryptoSplitter demonstrates how blockchain technology can solve everyday problems through transparency, automation, and frictionless peer-to-peer payments.
