Inspiration
CryptoSplitter was inspired by a problem I kept facing with friends: whenever someone paid the full bill for dinner, trips, or shared expenses, splitting the payment afterward became messy and awkward. As someone interested in Web3, I wondered:
Why can’t crypto make this process simpler and automatic?
That idea became CryptoSplitter — a platform that makes group payments transparent, fast, and easy through on-chain settlements.
What it does
CryptoSplitter is a Web3 expense-splitting app where users can:
create an event, add friends using EVM wallet addresses, automatically split the total cost, and settle debts instantly with one click. The goal was to remove manual calculations and make shared crypto payments seamless.
How i built it
I built the frontend using React/Next.js with TailwindCSS, while the blockchain logic was handled with Solidity smart contracts and Ethers.js.
The app calculates each participant’s share using:
Share=Totall Bill / Number of Participants I also implemented wallet integration, real-time payment tracking, and settlement logic.
Challenges i ran into
One of the biggest challenges was simplifying the Web3 user experience. Wallet popups, gas fees, and transaction confirmations can feel overwhelming, so I focused on making the process as smooth as possible.
Another challenge was ensuring accurate financial calculations inside the smart contracts, especially for edge cases and transaction handling.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully building a fully functional Web3 expense-splitting platform from scratch Creating a smooth “one-click” settlement experience using EVM wallets Implementing smart contracts that handle transparent and automatic payment splitting Designing a clean and simple UI that makes blockchain interactions easier for everyday users Integrating real-time balance tracking and on-chain transaction updates Deploying and testing the application on the Sepolia testnet Turning a real-world problem into a practical decentralized application Learning and combining frontend development, smart contracts, and Web3 integrations into one complete project
What we learned
Through this project, I improved my skills in:
Solidity development, smart contract integration, frontend architecture, and blockchain transaction handling.
Most importantly, I learned that successful Web3 apps are not just about technology — they must solve real problems with a simple user experience.
What's next for CryptoSplitter
The next step for CryptoSplitter is expanding beyond the Sepolia testnet and turning it into a fully usable multi-chain Web3 payment platform.
Planned improvements include:
Support for all major EVM-compatible chains such as Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism, and BNB Chain Support for multiple cryptocurrencies instead of only ETH Automatic conversion between fiat currencies (EUR/USD) and crypto values Stablecoin support for easier real-world payments Cross-chain compatibility and easier wallet onboarding Improved UI/UX to make the app accessible even for non-crypto users
One important feature I want to add is real-time fiat conversion, so users can enter amounts in euros or dollars while the platform automatically calculates the equivalent value in crypto. This would make CryptoSplitter feel much more natural for everyday use since most people think in fiat currencies rather than ETH values. The long-term vision is to make CryptoSplitter a simple, chain-agnostic payment tool that allows anyone to split expenses instantly using any EVM-compatible cryptocurrency.
