Here's a quick example of what our graphic MMS service can provide.
Inspiration:
We were inspired by an array of websites and apps that make financial decisions easier for the day to day user. Our goal was to create a ==personalized== service that acts as a supplement to any current financial applications. We wanted to provide financial literacy to those who sought critical information. While current financial applications make purchasing and selling easy for users, we believe that access to the ever fluctuating prices and data is still lacking. In order to accomplish our goal, we were inspired by SMS messaging technologies that allows for easy transfer of information to the user in one of the most efficient manners possible.
What it does:
Our service sends the user SMS messages that updates them about current stock and or crypto prices. The user simply sends their phone number through our website ([link(https://packhackersgt.wixsite.com/pack)), and our system will create ==personalized== responses to the specific users wishes. It is essentially a reminder service that makes financial actions easy and quickly accessible to the user. What's more, you don't even have to open an app to access the information. The user will receive text messages that updates the price whenever and wherever they need it.
How we built it:
Our service was built by utilizing Twilio's API, Velo by Wix, and yfinance. Velo was used to make our website while Twilio helped us to create our SMS messaging service. Lastly Velo by Wix allowed us to create our webpage that provides an overview of what our service does. Additionally, our website is where the user can provide their contact information so that the interaction can begin.
Challenges we ran into:
Trying to get our local images (plotly graphs) to send through Twilio. Twilio doesn't like local files, so we had to use a function that uploaded them onto a Flask server, that was utilizing NGROK. We would then pull the images off of our NGROK link to be sent through Twilio. Finding an idea was likely the biggest challenge for our team. In terms of time spent, searching for a good idea was the most tasking. However we believe we have found a great one. On the technical side, implement flask and other web tools such as Twilio came with some complications as we had to learn how to properly utilize their applications / API's. We initially planned on implemented a Domain.com domain that would replace the Wix domain. However, due to unforeseen complications we were unfortunately unable to do so.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
We are very proud of of our implementation of MMS messaging that not only sends the user text based data, but also media formatted data such as visuals or graphs. This allows for a more enjoyable product as the user gains visuals information to go along with the text.
What we learned:
We learned that utilizing new technologies can be time consuming. Utilizing the first day to organize a concrete plan is crucial to creating a productive and effective design. What's more, we used a trial Twilio account which requires a verified number to utilize of service.
What's next for cryptopack?
There's still lots of room for improvement and additional services. Our service is still in its initial stage and currently provides a perspective into the future opportunities cryptopack could create. We'd love to add more features and make the user experience even better for users.
