Inspiration

My(Wesley) partner Ken is really into cryptocurrency, and constantly pitches Bitcoin to our suite. However, most of our suite plans on investing a vast majority of our portfolios in index funds, so we miss out on the crypto trading experience that Ken gets. This project is designed to fix that, simulating that experience with no risk involved.

What it does

This gives users the real time crypto trading experience using up-to-date crypto price data

How we built it

We built this using the MERN tech stack, tracking transaction history in the database and dynamically calculating totals in React using prices from Binance crypto Websocket APIS.

Challenges we ran into

Searching for and learning the documentation for crypto Websocket APIs took a good chunk of our time, but we got it configured in the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very happy with the UI, and it was very rewarding to see our project run as expected, dynamically rendering new price data.

What we learned

We learned a lot about the MERN tech stack, mostly focusing on the integration of separate Websocket APIs with React.

What's next for Crypto Trading Simulator

Maybe adding more crypto options in addition to the big 3 we currently have(Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin).
