Inspiration

We were inspired by the challenge many crypto investors face when seeking liquidity without selling their assets. Traditional financial services often don’t cater to crypto holders, making it difficult to unlock the value of their digital assets. Horizon was designed to solve this problem by allowing users to take out loans from banks using their cryptocurrency as collateral, offering financial flexibility while protecting long-term investments.

What It Does

Horizon enables users to borrow fiat currency from banks by securing their loans with crypto collateral. The platform calculates the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio, ensuring transparency, security, and fair lending terms. It also allows users to track their collateral's value, manage repayments, and adjust loan terms seamlessly.

How We Built It

  • Frontend: Built with Next.js and Tailwind CSS to provide a modern, responsive UI/UX.
  • Backend: Developed using Flask to manage user authentication, loan processing, and API integration.

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Incorporating cryptocurrency volatility into risk assessment for loan approval.
  • Navigating complex regulatory compliance in both banking and blockchain spaces.
