Inspiration

Our previous fintech challenge team wanted to continue to explore fintech solutions and decided to work on a cryptocurrency lending platform that would help save the environment.

What it does

Carbon credit is an unresolved problem, especially for homeowners, and many have extra carbon credits they are willing to sell or exchange. Carbon credits can be costly, though. Thus, implementing a cryptocurrency trading platform to allow homeowners to trade carbon credits through cryptocurrency can solve the issue of carbon credit imbalances for homeowners.

How we built it

We developed the website using HTML, CSS, Javascript, Solidity, Truffle, and Ganache.

Challenges we ran into

We used another source code as a template to develop upon. The biggest challenge we ran into was that the template code was written 5 years ago, and some syntax was not compatible with later versions of the tools and technologies today. Therefore, we not only needed to learn the old syntax to understand what it did but also had to find the equivalent syntax in new versions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges that we faced, we successfully developed a working website that provides a cryptocurrency trading platform for carbon credit exchange.

What we learned

From this experience, we not only learnt the tools and technologies in depth, especially in the blockchain space, but also learnt to build products quickly and sharpen our teamwork skills.

What's next for Crypto Carbon

We would like to deploy Crypto Carbon publicly as a site homeowners will be able to use to trade cryptocurrency to use towards the exchange of carbon credits, enabling more energy efficient homes, and a lower carbon footprint that will be better for the environment and prevent further climate change.
