We wanted to create a simple, streamlined method to quickly get the latest cryptocurrency market data while browsing the web.

What it does

Cryptick uses public APIs to retrieve cryptocurrency data and inform users on recent changes in the market.

How we built it

Cryptick is built with HTML/CSS/JavaScript and Semantic UI.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into trouble interacting with Google Chrome's storage sync system, which left us unable to save favorite coins persistently.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We used Semantic UI to keep a clean, consistent look across the extension. We were also able to filter the API results based on the users favorite coins and bring in crypto news from various different sources.

What we learned

Building a chrome extension is very similar to a standard web application, but it also has many nuances that should be undertstood in order to fully take advantage of the chrome extension ecosystem.

What's next for CrypTick

Next we would like to add infinite scrolling, a persistent favorites bar across browser sessions, and sort/search functionality. Publication on the Google Chrome Web Store which is currently pending review.
