Elevator Pitch
Kryptobooking enables guests to book rooms in their favorite digital assets. The transaction amount is retained by the smart contract until the confirmation from both parties (Hotel provider and User). Each visit generates NFTs for the guest which can be used as an proof of ownership and collectible, among others. Users can also earn tokens when giving a video review.
Some of the Problems that users are currently facing:
- Help improve cancellation policies and fair refund policies.
- Offer a multi currency alternative independent of the geography where it is legally allowed.
- Facilitation of a comprehensive loyalty program for guests.
- Increase monetary incentives for travelers.
Goals for the project:
- We would like to help increase the volume of successful bookings/transactions.
- Diminish the rate of failed transactions by introducing an escrow system.
- Tokenize digital and physical assets such as a VIP room among others.
- Facilitate the experience and technical knowledge gap for the users.
We decided to create a desktop Web app (as 26% of travel searches now occur from a mobile device). For the sake of this hackathon research, we focused on the us market as its share is larger than ¼ of the worldwide hotels booking, and also it has one of the highest rates of crypto owners with a 8.3% of the population. We noticed that the crypto population is larger at most at 34, but hotel bookings are very often for elderly so we need to provide a seamless UX experience optimized for elderly.
The product: An user can search and book a hotel room. Digital assets payments are collected via via theta wallet. The payment is retained as escrow by the smart contract until the user does the check in at the hotel and both parties validate and confirm the release of the escrow. The possession of a NFT (proof of receipt) for a guest represents ownership of the booked room from the start of the booking until the expiration date. From the B2B side, each hotel should apply to Krypbooking, in order to be listed on the site, after completing the review process and approval, the hotel and the rooms can be listed publicly, including all concerning details, such as price, availability, pictures, canceling policies, among other. Once a user makes a reservation at the hotel, the hotel attendant need to confirm the reservation, and prepare the room according to the already set standards, so once the guest arrives in order to make the check in, the attendant can quickly validate the booking via a given code from the guest and release the escrow. After this step, the guest receives from the attendant an NFT as a proof of receipt, which is transferable from the booking date until the expiration date. In the case that the transaction shall be canceled for whatever reason, “the release or not” of the escrow, may be given in the smart contract depending of certain rules, for example: If the booking is confirmed, but days later is canceled from the side of the hotel. The guest receives a 100% refund. If a guest changes the date after a booking is confirmed, and then proceeds to cancel this modification, the hotel retains 25% of the escrow. More policies of this type should be arrange with the hotels.
Tokenomics: Token Name: Token Symbol: Contract Address: Chain: Max Supply:
These are our journeys. For the MVP we focused mainly in the booking from an Authenticated user and an authenticated user.
Authenticated User ✓ Booking Log in → search (sort)→ room overview(Select) → Checkout Page →Pay with Native Token/ NFT→ Confirmation Page → Escrow reservation→ Booking receipt/notification→ Booking process completed
Arrival ✓ Checkin-Process→ User presents booking code → Hotel attendant confirms the code and approves → Fund is transferred to the Hotel wallet from the Escrow
Cancellation - user User selects a booking ref → Clicks to cancel reservation → Agrees with the cancellation policy of the Hotel → Cancels the Booking successfully
Hotel Owner Onboarding Register → Login → Apply to be listed → Upload relevant documents(to be agreed) → Review Process → Approved → Hotel is listed
Management Dashboard ✓ View Bookings → Update Listings → Accept/reject → View transactions/analytics → View Reservations → Approve a Guest on Arrival (Booking code confirmation)
An unauthenticated User** Landing Page→ Browse/View hotels publicly listed → Browse Featured Hotels
How we built it After doing a brief research about the current problems faced by users. We proceed with the smart contract. It comes with a sample contract, a test for that contract, a sample script that deploys that contract, and an example of a task implementation, which simply lists the available accounts. We created it in solidity and compiled in Remix IDE through the wallet, deployed in Theta testnet,
1)Code is written with React JS v18. 2)Smart contracts are written with Solidity v0.8. 3)A Perfect Customer Booking/Reservation Solution in a decentralized Way. 4)It is a Distributed Application. 5)Here React JS talks with Ethereum blockchain with the help of "Raw" ether.js. 6)Communication with the Smart Contracts is supported using JSON RPC by Hardhat Running Environment.(For testing Purposes) 7)Firebase for Hosting.
Challenges we ran into
Some technical problems concerning integration. Issues with the theta wallet, getting the fetch but inability to display it. Issues with linking between the "Theta Api"...Mostly GetAccount one and with the sign/register form
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The release of a MVP in a couple of days. In the end, we were able to create our own native Fungible Token and Non-Fungible Tokens for the Hotel listings. We connected it all to our React-Nodejs front-end. We've our app with Theta wallet and got the basic registration flow setup. We're able to reward users with our FT Token upon successful checkout of a Hotel and Users can be able to send it to other users.
What we learned
Most of the users' related positives experience with an intuitive and easy UX, organized, easy payment gate, adjusted to budget, providing payment options features such as pay later, quick transactions.
What's next for Krypbooking
Our Future Vision is to make our web app more robust with more in depth functionality. Thinking of releasing on iOS/Android platform for more userbase and easy to use UX. Promoting more Rewards/Incentives for regular clients. Our greater vision also lies not to make this product only for hotel 🏨 booking but to other services also like flights✈️, 🚝trains,🚍 buses, 🚖 taxis/cabs and even yachts 🛥️ in same manner of our hotel booking. We are focusing and working on our upcoming challenges to make this product a ecosystem of all kinds of reservation based system with minimum transaction charges and greater user experience. There are some parts of the products that still remain open such as: Hotel side (Onboarding + dashboard), escrow release code and cancellation, tokenomics models
