Inspiration

We all save things we never see again. A reel with a great recipe, a Medium post on system design, a Reddit thread with the exact fix you need, a tweet about a book to read. They end up scattered across Instagram saves, browser bookmarks, screenshots and "notes to self" chats. When you actually need that one thing, you can't find it.

I wanted one place that doesn't just store links but actually reads what you save, pulls out the crux, and hands it back to you when you need it. That's CruxR.

What it does

CruxR is an AI-powered save-and-recall app that works across every device:

  • Save from anywhere - share a reel or post straight to the mobile app, or hit the "+" in the browser extension on any page (Instagram, Medium, Reddit, YouTube, articles and more).
  • It understands what you saved - CruxR extracts the key takeaways and presents each save as a clean sticky note with its crux, not just a URL.
  • Just Ctrl+F your life - search across everything you've saved by meaning, not only by title.
  • Resurfaces it for you - a daily push notification at a time you choose and a weekly review email of your saves, so good content doesn't die in a folder.
  • One ecosystem - iOS app, Android app, web app and browser extension, all in sync.

Built for students (including UPSC aspirants), developers, creators and founders - anyone who values their time.

How we built it

  • Mobile: React Native app for iOS and Android with share-sheet integration so saving is one tap.
  • Web + extension: Next.js / React web app and a browser extension with a one-click "+" save.
  • Backend: API + MongoDB for users and saves, with an AI pipeline that fetches content, extracts the crux and indexes it for search.
  • Monetization: RevenueCat powers subscriptions on iOS and Android - offerings, paywalls, entitlements and cross-platform subscription status. Dodo Payments handles web checkout, and entitlements stay consistent across devices.
  • Engagement: scheduled daily notifications and a weekly digest email.

Challenges we ran into

  • Pulling meaningful content from closed or messy sources like reels and social posts, not just clean articles.
  • Keeping one user's library and subscription state in sync across four surfaces.
  • Unifying entitlements between RevenueCat (mobile) and a separate web payment provider.
  • Making the share flow fast enough that saving feels instant.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • A full ecosystem - iOS, Android, web and extension - shipped as a solo builder.
  • A save flow that takes one tap and a recall flow that actually finds things.
  • Subscriptions wired end to end with RevenueCat, ready for launch.

What we learned

  • RevenueCat removes most of the pain of in-app purchases: store configuration, receipt validation and entitlement checks become a few SDK calls.
  • Users don't want another folder; they want their saves to come back to them at the right time.
  • Cross-platform consistency is a product feature, not just an engineering detail.

What's next for CruxR

  • Public launch at cruxr.live with launch discounts.
  • A "watch later" layer that detects videos, books and dishes mentioned in your saves and lines them up for you.
  • Smarter collections and deeper recall across your library.
