Inspiration
We were inspired to build a "social good hack" that was suggested by J.P. Morgan. The hack was to develop a web app that helps incentivize people - with and without disabilities - to provide more structured information on accessible spaces. We thought about Yelp and how they crowd-sourced reviews about businesses to inform others within a community, and thought that we could implement a similar system, except putting a focus on information on accessible spaces.
We named the application "Cruutch" as it is meant to be a supplement to those with disabilities, and we aim to build a supportive community within our web application.
What it does
Cruutch is a crowd-sourced web application that provides information about the accessibility of public spaces, such as restaurants, sports venues, and educational institutions.
How we built it
We built the website using HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
Since we are new to HTML and CSS, we faced obstacles with the unfamiliar syntax of HTML and CSS. We were unable to connect the html files to a domain name, but they function properly when the HTML files are opened.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Pushing ourselves to try something new
What we learned
What's next for Cruutch
A user login, a star rating system, maps of the local businesses, more questions on accessibilities, a point balance, and much more!
